Cookie Policy
Last updated:
This page lists the cookies and similar technologies CiaoBarber uses.
CiaoBarber uses no profiling cookies and no third-party analytics, audience measurement or advertising tools. That is why you see no consent banner: the cookies in use are strictly technical and necessary to deliver the service you asked for, and Article 122 of the Italian Privacy Code (legislative decree 196/2003) and the Garante's guidelines of 10 June 2021 do not require prior consent for them.
If we ever introduce analytics or marketing tools, this page will be updated and a banner will ask for your consent before anything is installed.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a site saves on your device. They carry information from one page to the next, such as the fact that you have already signed in.
The same rules cover other tools that write data to your device, such as browser local storage, which section 4 describes.
2. Which cookies we use
| Name | Type | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
| better-auth.session_token | Strictly necessary | Keeps your session active after sign-in and identifies the signed-in user | 7 days |
| better-auth.session_data | Strictly necessary | Holds already-verified session data for a few minutes, to avoid a database read on every page | 5 minutes |
| NEXT_LOCALE | Strictly necessary | Remembers the language you chose, Italian or English, for later pages | Browser session |
| sidebar_state | Technical preference | Remembers whether you left the dashboard sidebar open or closed | 7 days |
All of these are first-party cookies, set by the ciaobarber.com domain and unreadable by anyone else. None of them is used to build a profile or to follow you across other sites.
3. Third parties on the site
The intro video on the home page is delivered by Cloudinary. It only starts loading once the video scrolls into view: until then no request goes to Cloudinary at all. When the video does load, Cloudinary receives your IP address and the technical details of the request, which it needs in order to deliver the file. No profiling cookies are set.
The site's typeface is served from our own servers rather than Google Fonts, so visiting the site sends no request to Google.
Subscription payments happen on PayPal's own pages, under PayPal's policy and cookies. That only occurs if you choose to take out a paid plan.
4. Local storage
The platform uses browser local storage to remember a few of your choices. That data stays on your device and is never sent to our servers.
| Key | Purpose |
|---|---|
| ciaobarber.blog.saved | The blog articles you saved to read later |
| ciaobarber.blog.liked | The articles you liked, so the like can be taken back |
| privacyNoticeDismissed | Remembers that you already dismissed the privacy notice in the dashboard |
You can clear this at any time by clearing site data in your browser settings. All you lose is those preferences.
5. Managing cookies
You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings. Note that disabling the session cookie makes it impossible to sign in or stay signed in: that cookie is essential to the account area working at all.
